RESPITE CARE PROGRAM

Our Respite Care Program provides funding for parents to access planned, short-term, in-home, and out-of-home support to families with children with complex medical needs, physical disabilities, and/or developmental delays.

Respite care enables families or primary caregivers to rest, attend to personal needs, or participate in outside activities. It gives parents/guardians and siblings an opportunity to take time out for themselves. Respite services are flexible and responsive to the diverse individualized needs of the child/youth and family. The Respite Care Program is accountable to the families, the THRIVE Child Development Centre, the Ministry of Child, Community and Social Services.

INDEPENDENT SERVICE PROVIDERS

Parents/guardians are responsible for selecting an Independent Service Provider to support their child/youth. A worker registry is available at www.respiteservices.com  to assist families in recruiting service providers. These individuals have registered with www.respiteservices.com and have been provided with an overview of how the respite program works. THRIVE Child Development Centre offers “Guidelines for Families” to assist with advertising, recruiting, and interviewing service providers.

All workers on the registry are required to have a current Vulnerable Persons Sector check and can be provided with a First Aid & CPR course to complete.
