Students

THRIVE Child Development Centre welcomes students, and works together with the student and their school to provide placements and job shadowing opportunities that are beneficial to the student and the Centre.

THRIVE hosts student placements from a wide range of faculties and institutions, both local and from outside of Sault Ste Marie. We work closely with Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), Rehabilitation Sciences to host learners in clinical placements from various university partners’ schools of rehabilitation sciences. Some of the placements we have provided, are as follows:

  • Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)
  • Communicative Disorders Assistant
  • Early Childhood Education (HS McLellan)
  • Kinesiology
  • Occupational Therapy
  • Physiotherapy
  • Social Work
  • Speech-Language Pathology

If you are a student, interested in placement with THRIVE Child Development Centre, please contact your program’s placement coordinator to begin the application process. Placement coordinators are welcome to contact People & Culture via email recruiting@kidsthrive.ca. Due to the high demand of requests, we encourage potential applicants to reach out as early as possible.  Although we can not always support every applicant we will endeavour to accommodate as many requests as possible each term.

Placement requests are reviewed on a regular basis. Our review process considers number of requests, suitability with Centre programs and services, and capacity for placement supervision. An interview process may be required for selection of students.

Generally, high school co-operative placements are only available in our on-site child care centre. University and College placements may be available for programs in related fields, provided we can meet the learning objectives of the program.

*Please note that all applicants are required to provide proof of at least two (2) doses of the COVID19 vaccination as well as a recent (no older than 6 months) Vulnerable Sectors Check.

Once accepted, students will be required to complete our general onboarding training prior to beginning their placement.

THRIVE does not provide WSIB insurance or financial compensation to students for placement experience.
