Our Respite Care Program provides planned, short-term, in-home and out-of-home support to families with children with complex medical needs, physical disabilities and/or developmental delays. Short notice and emergency requests will be accommodated as best as possible.
Respite care enables families or primary caregivers to rest, attend to personal needs, or participate in outside activities. It gives parents/guardians and siblings an opportunity to take time out for themselves. Respite services are flexible and responsive to the diverse individualized needs of the child/youth and family. The Respite Care Program is accountable to the families, the THRIVE Child Development Centre, the Ministry of Community and Social Services, and the Ministry of Children and Youth Services.
Independent Service Providers
Parents/guardians are responsible for selecting an Independent Service provider to support their child/youth. A worker registry is available at www.respiteservices.com to assist families in recruiting service providers. These individuals have been screened and have received a brief orientation to the program. All workers on the registry have had a criminal record check, CPR & First Aid training. THRIVE Child Development Centre offers “Guidelines for Families” to assist with advertising, recruiting and interviewing service providers.
If you require more information about the respite care program or need help in finding and/or hiring an independent service provider, please contact Amanda Gauthier, Respite Care Coordinator at 705-759-1131, ex. 229 or email her at firstname.lastname@example.org referencing “respite care” in the subject line.
